"The answer to your question is actually 10,000 distinct religions and many more sects within their religion so you got that wrong.”
My blog post did not ask a question concerning how many “religions” there are in the world. Instead, I asked a question regarding how many religious worldviews there are. Without repeating the entire post, all religions come down to 2 religious worldviews:
- Biblical Christianity (Jesus is the Savior)
- Everything else (Jesus is anything except the Savior- a good teacher, a moral teacher, a prophet, one of many possible gods, or of no particular significance)
This can further be discussed in terms of what it takes to have everlasting life. Every religion in the world, other than Biblical Christianity, is a works-based religion. Only in Biblical Christianity do we have a Savior who did it all for us in His death, burial, and resurrection on the Cross. There is nothing that we can do to add to our salvation.
“You say you have the one true religion but show no evidence to that claim. Just another false religion in the midst of the many false ideas.”
Romans 1:18-22 states: “For the wrath of God is revealed from Heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For His invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools…”
The reality is, I do not need to show you any evidence. God has made it known to every person that He exists through His creation. Furthermore, the people who claim that they don’t know Him are suppressing the truth about the one true God because of their sin (unrighteousness).
However, the Bible does have a unique feature that no other authority has – it is a self-attesting ultimate authority. NOTHING can prove the Bible, except itself. Logically, if anything could prove the Bible, it would not itself be an absolute authority. Thus, it must be self-attesting.
The best example: The OT contains over 300 prophecies of the birth, life, death, and resurrection of the coming Savior- all of which were fulfilled by Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
“To correct another claim in your article. Atheism is not a religion. It's like saying abstinence is a sex position or bald is a hair style. Even the name breaks down to the opposite of theism. The default position when there is no proof to god claims.”
Atheism doesn’t seem to be a religion on its surface; however, atheism must also have a belief in some type of origins. Intellectually honest atheists appeal to evolution as there is no other option for origins besides a Creator. As a Christian, I understand that, “In the Beginning, God.” God transcends time and was present BEFORE the beginning of the world that he created. Evolutionists also have a religious belief: In the beginning, dirt. They also believe that something must have always existed to be able to magically form into everything that we see today. There are some physicists today who are desperately trying to come up with theories (like string theory) that can explain how something came from nothing. The ironic thing is, while trying to assume that something came from nothing, they still must assume that the physics and quantum laws must have existed when they claim that nothing existed and turned into something! Utter foolishness…
“I will give you one thing. There can be only one answer. And that is there is no god or gods or spirit worlds or phony ideas like that, especially when there is no proof other than an collection of books that can't get hardly get a claim right.
I am glad that you understand only one way can be right. And you already know which one.
See my response above regarding Romans 1:18-22.
When you go around and attempt to poison people's minds and this world with your terrible and hateful business cards I have a problem and I will voice it just as loudly as you try to."
Jesse, by this part of the response, it seems as if you are appealing to a standard of good and evil (bad). What is your basis for an absolute standard of good and bad to judge me by when you don't start with God- the absolute moral law giver?
Aside from that, are you referring to the “equal sign” Gospel tracts that we hand out? On the contrary, we don't believe they are hateful- they are actually proof of our love of people! We know that we are all appointed once to die, and then judgment (Hebrews 9:27). We are all lawbreakers and evildoers in the eyes of God. We would all be found guilty in front of God based on our actions here on earth. The reality is, by God’s grace, He gave us His only begotten Son to live the perfect life that we are not capable of. He died on the cross for our sins (not His own as He is sinless), was buried, and raised Himself from the dead 3 days later, conquering death. If we repent from our sin and trust in Him alone, we can be saved from eternal damnation. We proclaim the Gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ, so that people can be saved. Proclaiming the Gospel and handing out Gospel tracts is the most loving thing that we can do for anyone.
