It really is the MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR, isn’t it?
(I hope you know sarcasm when you see it.)
What gives?!? Why do we hear “Happy Holidays!” in December … and ONLY December?
Well, we all really know the answer to that, don’t we? So, let’s continue to beat around the bush a little bit longer…
Why does our current POTUS refer to the book of Islam as the “Holy Scriptures” or the “Sacred Book” of the Quran? Or to Mohammed as the “Holy Prophet”? Why do public schools, and even some “churches,” incorporate religious meditation practices, like Yoga and “Mindfulness” training, into their daily curriculum and weekly activities, though they come directly from Hindu and Buddhist doctrines, respectively? Why are so many metropolitan public schools allowing for scheduled times of prayer and religious attire, in accordance with Muslim Sharia Law mandates?
And, yet, students from the same public schools can be suspended for carrying a Bible around with them to classes? Or can be banned from forming clubs or from assembling on public college campuses if they don’t include representatives from the LGBTQ community? Why can the speech of Christians be shut down, even in “Free Speech Zones” on those same college campuses if even one person anonymously claims to be offended?
Again, we all really know the answers to these questions, right?
The Bible makes it clear that there is only ONE name under heaven by which any person can be saved …….
You can wax on and on about social justice and religion and the oppression of the poor and good works and feeding the hungry and rescuing girls out of the sex trade, etc., etc., but when you use THAT name and His mission to save people from their sins and God calling all people everywhere to repent through THAT name … and only THAT name, you would have thought that you just kidnapped a litter of defenseless puppies and were holding them ransom on a bus full of innocent children on their way to an Earth Day festival to plant trees on sacred Native American burial grounds that are host to endangered amoebas who live in puddles that are drying up because of rising temperatures!
His is the only proper name affixed to religion that is so often used as profanity in media, schools, workplaces, communities, on and on. His name is heard SO often SO flippantly, yet, somehow, it still amazingly carries SO much weight and SO much power when spoken in relationship to one’s need for repentance of sin and eternal salvation.
Mohammed? Ho-hum. Buddha? Boring! Confucius? Clever, but meh!
But Jesus? Power! Fear! Trembling! Disdain! Hatred! Tearing of clothes! Gnashing of teeth!
So, can we change this climate of only using “Happy Holidays!” during December? Should we force legislation that puts Christ back in Christmas? Should it even bother or surprise us that our country is moving away from all things Jesus? No, No and NO!
Here’s what I believe we should start doing: Get out there and begin greeting everyone with “Happy Holidays!” IMMEDIATELY!!!! We’ve got April Fools’ Day today (a.k.a. National Atheists’ Day), Earth Day coming up, along with Arbor Day, “May the 4th Be With You” Day, Cinco De Mayo, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Father’s Day, Independence Day. What a great way to both start and direct an evangelism opportunity!! What a way to get people thinking about how easy it is to follow Political Correctness like sheep when we adhere to their “Greetings Playbook”! Point out the clear holiday discrepancies! Ask people why we only say “Happy Holidays!” in December while so many other months & actual groupings of holidays are ignored. Lead them to say THAT name that is above all other names, even if it makes them grit their teeth & ball up their fists and stirs up fury and disdain within. Ask them why THAT name upsets them. Then, guide them to the deliverance from sin for which their soul deeply longs. Show them their war with God and how THAT name makes them right with Him.
Happy Holidays to you and yours!
